The berries' mild tartness goes well with the sweet chocolate and rich cream cheese. Here is an easy dessert recipe for Cranberry Chocolate Chip Bars.

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups uncooked old-fashioned oats
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup sweetened dried cranberries (can be substituted with raisins)
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9- x 13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

Cream butter and brown sugar in a large bowl using medium speed of an electric beater. Once smooth, add in flour, oats, and orange peel and mix. Texture of the mixture should be crumbly.

Stir in chocolate chips and cranberries using a wooden spoon. Reserve 2 cups of the mixture and press remaining mixture into prepared baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes.

In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese with an electric beater on medium speed until smooth. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, beating continuously.

Spread cream cheese mixture on top of baked crust. Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture and bake for another 25 to 30 minutes or until center is set.

Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Cover with kitchen wrap and chill for at least 2 hours before serving. Cut into bars and serve.
