Macadamia nuts are one of my favorite nuts. They are not only packed with flavor, they are also nutritious and know to have the highest amount of monounsaturated fats of any known nuts. According to research, monosaturated fats may help displace sources of cholesterol-raising saturated fats in the diet when eaten regularly.
These may not be the healthiest dessert bars around but it lessens the guilt knowing that these decadent treats contain something nutritious! Here is an easy dessert recipe for Chocolate Chip-Macadamia Bars.
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 3/4 cups chocolate chips, divided
3/4 cup coarsely chopped macadamia nuts
Heat oven to 375 F. Lightly grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.
Cream butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar in large bowl until sugars are dissolved and mixture is fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Add flour and baking soda to the butter mixture and blend well.
Stir in chocolate chips and chopped macadamia nuts. Mix until well incorporated. Press dough into prepared baking pan.
Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and place in a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into bars and serve.
